Project Management Methodology

Hello Team, recently I was one time asked the query on the difference between the various Project Management Methodologies being used by professionals in the corporate world. I found it hard to answer, as there is a lot of & varied paths being used by organizations around the globe with the final aim being the successful completion, usually by any means necessary. So what is the difference between the methodologies used out in the actual world to deliver projects? time you are in the mix of delivering projects, & I assume most of you will already know this, that the company you work for will have their own tweaks which have been tried & tested over time, to the essential Project Methodology which has worked for them & naturally will be maintained.

What is the essential methodology I am referring to, well The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), is this underpinning principle which holds up all the other methodologies used within successful & not so successful delivery, but what is it all about, well this is what I do know. It was established, when the Project Management Institute (PMI) setup in 1969 established its mission as to foster the growth of project management as well as "building professionalism" in the field. The PMI founded both the Project Management Journal & Network journal as a way of communicating ideas, as well as solutions for often encountered issues.

Another aim was to codify the areas of learning necessary for competent project managers. This approach is meant to serve as the essential basis for schooling within this stream. That is about it, & I won't get any more deep & significant than that. Over the years there is been plenty of alterations to the essential baseline & then the methodology has been coined by that organization, such methodology, popular & which I have worked with historically in the past is PRINCE, developed by IBM & is popular & widely recommended.

Regardless, I think apart from some modification within the stages of project delivery, & adjust in terms within those stages it is fundamentally the PMBOK, the sister of all project methodologies. Hence approaches to projects & their delivery may adjust from company to company, the principle is the same, as long as they are tested & show successful? Use a method which best works for you & deliver to the best of your ability, as a rule it will work, find your comfort zone.
